[DigitalToday reporter Hyunwoo Choo (추현우)] Apple has unveiled MacBook Pro 14 and 16 models equipped with entirely new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
The new models deliver AI performance up to 4 times higher than the previous generation and up to 8 times higher than the M1 model, based on a CPU with what it calls the world’s fastest CPU cores, a next-generation GPU with a per-core neural accelerator and expanded unified memory bandwidth. Developers, researchers, business professionals and creators can use more advanced on-device AI workflows.
SSD speeds are up to 2 times faster than the previous generation, reaching up to 14.5GB/s. The M5 Pro model comes with 1TB of base storage and the M5 Max model with 2TB. They support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 through Apple-designed N1 wireless chip and offer up to 24 hours of battery life. The Liquid Retina XDR display offers a nano-texture option, and expandability has been strengthened with Thunderbolt 5, HDMI, SDXC and MagSafe 3.
The M5 Pro and Max use an 18-core CPU configuration based on a fusion architecture to provide performance up to 30 percent faster. GPU performance is up to 50 percent higher than the M4 Pro and Max, and the company says it also brings big improvements in LLM prompt processing, AI image generation, 3D rendering and video effects work. Unified memory supports up to 64GB for M5 Pro and up to 128GB for M5 Max, with memory bandwidth of 307GB/s and 614GB/s, respectively.
The new MacBook Pro will start taking pre-orders on March 4 and will be officially released on March 11. Prices start at 3.49 million won for the 14-inch model with M5 Pro and 4.29 million won for the 16-inch. The 14-inch model with M5 Max starts at 5.79 million won and the 16-inch at 6.29 million won.
