The cryptocurrency market fell sharply across the board on suspicion of a Binance security incident. As of 8 a.m. on Oct. 30, bitcoin (BTC) traded at $78,906, down 2.81 percent from a day earlier, according to Coin360. Bitcoin's market share was 59.81 percent. Ethereum (ETH) fell 3.72 percent to $2,268 and XRP slipped 6.29 percent to $1.24.

Among altcoins, Chainlink (LINK) plunged 9.18 percent to $11, the biggest drop. Binance Coin (BNB) fell 6.55 percent to $706, Zcash (ZEC) dropped 6.39 percent to $1,239 and Solana (SOL) slid 5.31 percent to $97. Hyperliquid (HYPE) rose 12.77 percent to $91, while Tron (TRX) gained 5.39 percent to $0.35.

The latest fall stemmed from a large outflow of funds from a Binance hot wallet. On Oct. 29, local time, about $3.5 billion moved to a single address, cryptocurrency outlet Unchained reported. Binance said user funds were "completely safe" but did not confirm whether a hack had occurred.

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (창펑 자오) said it "looks like a hack on Binance," and Tether and Circle froze about $2 billion worth of stablecoins. Bitcoin at one point slipped to $78,763, and about $628 million was liquidated in an hour.

Alphabet's shares slid about 12 percent on weak earnings, and the Nasdaq closed down 1.38 percent, weighing on investor sentiment. Hyperliquid rose on news that Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the owner of the New York Stock Exchange, would bring Hyperliquid-based perpetual futures to the United States.
