[DigitalToday reporter Suk Dae-geon] Shinsegae Group on Oct. 23 announced its 2027 regular executive reshuffle. Chairman Chung Yong-jin (정용진) was named CEO-designate of E-Mart, and Shinsegae Casa CEO Kim Hong-geuk (김홍극) was appointed as E-Mart’s new CEO. Kim will also serve as SSG.com CEO. Chung took office as Shinsegae Property CEO in June and will officially take the E-Mart post after a shareholders meeting, the company said.
The lineup at the group’s control tower, the Management Strategy Office, will also change. Choi Taek-won (최택원), CEO of SSG.com, was appointed head of management support, overseeing personnel and audit functions. Park Seung-hak (박승학), head of the leisure business division at Josun Hotel & Resort, was named head of external cooperation, in charge of public relations and external affairs. Jeon Sang-jin (전상진), head of management and an executive vice president, will stay on to continue handling the group’s finances. Choi previously led logistics and supply chain management and headed E-Mart’s sales headquarters, while Park previously served as E-Mart’s sales division head and head of CSR.
Some affiliate chiefs will also be replaced. Huh Min-ho (허민호), who served as CJ Olive Young CEO for 10 years, was recruited from outside and named CEO-designate of Shinsegae Casa. Huh will also serve as head of Shinsegae International’s cosmetics division. Shinsegae International is split into a fashion division and a cosmetics division, with the fashion division led by CEO Kim Deok-ju (김덕주). Kih In-ju (기인주), CEO of SMPMC, was named CEO-designate of the Shinsegae Baseball Club to prepare for the “Cheongna domed stadium era.”
The reshuffle promoted a record 36 new executives. As the group actively selected executives in their 40s, the share of executives in their 40s rose to 18 percent, the highest among the group’s executives. Shinsegae Group said the result reflected its system for developing talent based on job capability and performance. The company said it will also continue ad hoc personnel appointments to place talent in the right jobs.
Chung will lead major affiliates under a co-CEO structure with E-Mart CEO Kim Hong-geuk and Shinsegae Property CEO Lee Hyung-cheon (이형천). The group plans to strengthen the competitiveness of its core businesses and spread its mid- to long-term strategy and vision across affiliates. Shinsegae Group is detailing its push beyond retail into a life, content and entertainment company. It is pursuing cooperative projects with ReflectionAI, Aman Group and Skydance.
Shinsegae Group described the reshuffle as a “personnel overhaul to swiftly resolve challenges facing the company and execute future growth plans without disruption.” It said it judged that Chung would “directly demonstrate leadership during a period of major industrial transformation centered on artificial intelligence and lead the group’s changes.”
