Solana has improved network stability without a mainnet outage for two years, but staking and infrastructure concentration still require scrutiny.
Cointelegraph reported on Oct. 17 that Fidelity Applied Technology Center (FCAT) said in a recent report that Solana has made meaningful progress across resilience, economic security and performance metrics.
The assessment focused on how stably the network operates in practice rather than just processing speed. The report noted that no mainnet outage has been reported for Solana in two years. It warned that it is too early to say those gains have become structural, and that concentration in staking, hosting and client software could threaten future stability.
Fidelity said Solana has a relatively solid foundation in terms of economic security. It said the structure is supported by incentives that reward substantial staking participation and validator performance, and that encouraging validator participation works positively in maintaining the network.
Performance improvements have also continued in real-world use. Fidelity mentioned Solana's low latency, expanded processing capacity and low transaction costs as supporting large-scale use. Transaction costs and processing speed are key indicators of blockchain network competitiveness, and Solana was assessed as maintaining strengths in this area.
Decentralisation and resilience remained separate issues. With stake concentrated among a small number of validators, network operational risks could rise if validator distribution is insufficient. Concentration of hosting resources and client software in specific areas was also flagged in the same context.
Solana is also working to improve network response speed. Jacob Creech (제이컵 크리치), vice president of technology at the Solana Foundation, said last August that the slot time was cut to 350 milliseconds. It marked the first slot time reduction since the network's launch. The foundation said the change can reduce latency and speed up transaction confirmation. It plans three further cuts of 50 milliseconds each.
Fidelity said network health is difficult to judge on processing speed improvements alone. It said sustained operation without a mainnet outage is positive, but the long-term ability to respond to and recover from disruptions depends on validator structure and the level of infrastructure decentralisation.
Solana's task ahead is to reduce concentration risk while maintaining performance competitiveness. Whether it can achieve greater decentralisation of validators and infrastructure, based on staking participation and a low-cost transaction structure, remains a key variable for long-term network assessment.
