Bitcoin-based life insurer Meanwhile, backed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has raised $37.5 million, The Block reported on Oct. 9.
The report said Bain Capital Crypto led the round. Existing investors including Hun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital and Apollo also took part. Meanwhile, which is headquartered in Bermuda, said the fundraising brought its total funding to more than $180 million.
Meanwhile said its total assets reached 1,183 bitcoin at the end of 2025, up more than fivefold from a year earlier.
Meanwhile said profit earned from insurance sales this year has already exceeded its total profit for last year. It projected the full-year figure will more than double from last year. It did not disclose an amount.
Stefan Cohen (스테판 코헨), a partner at Bain Capital Crypto, said, "Meanwhile runs the full life insurance process directly as a regulated life insurer, while growing the company like an AI startup." He added, "This year’s growth shows that this approach works."
Meanwhile launched 'BTC Life 1-Pay' earlier this year, targeting high-net-worth individuals outside the United States. It is a whole life insurance policy that pays out in bitcoin upon death if the premium is paid in a lump sum in bitcoin. Policyholders can borrow up to 90 percent of the policy value after 1 year. There is no repayment schedule or demand for additional collateral. The previously launched 'BTC 10-Pay' is a product for U.S. taxpayers.
