[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Figma is integrating OpenAI's AI coding tool "Codex" to strengthen collaboration between designers and developers, TechCrunch reported on Feb. 26 local time.
The company said the integration allows users to create and edit designs directly in coding environments. It also enables smooth movement between design and code through the Figma MCP server.
The update was announced a week after Figma integrated Claude Code through a partnership with Anthropic. Previously, users could import Figma design files, Figma Make and FigJam data into Codex to implement code, but they can now adjust designs directly in coding environments.
OpenAI first launched Codex last year as a command-line coding assistant tool, then added it to ChatGPT and introduced a macOS-only app this month. The macOS app logged 1 million downloads in its first week, and OpenAI additionally unveiled 2 new Codex models. OpenAI said more than 1 million people are now using Codex each week.
