Hana Bank will begin selling retail treasury bonds that customers can invest in through defined contribution (DC) and individual retirement pension (IRP) accounts.

Hana Bank said on Tuesday it launched a retirement pension-only "retail treasury bond" product.

Retail treasury bonds are savings-type government bonds issued for individual investors. Investors can buy 10- and 20-year bonds in 100,000 won units through Hana Bank DC and IRP accounts.

If held to maturity, the coupon rate plus an additional rate will be applied on an annual compound basis. As the investment is made through retirement pension accounts, taxation on interest generated from the bond investment is deferred until withdrawals.

If funds are received in the form of a pension after age 55, pension income tax applies, among other retirement pension tax benefits.

Retail treasury bonds are issued on the 20th of each month. September subscriptions run from Sept. 9 to 15. Applications can be made through branches, and the bank plans to allow non-face-to-face subscriptions from October.

A Hana Bank official said, "We will expand retirement pension products and wealth management services to meet customers' investment preferences and demand for retirement preparation."
