Cyber attackers are increasingly using AI, accelerating the automation of phishing crimes, an analysis shows. Device-code phishing attacks jumped sharply from January to April 2026 compared with the second half of 2025, according to an Axios report citing Huntress. Huntress said phishing-as-a-service platforms package identity theft infrastructure, phishing kits and AI workflows for subscription. It said generative AI is enabling mass personalisation of messages and helping industrialise phishing operations.

Gartner forecast on June 24 that AI coding costs will exceed the average developer salary by 2028. It cited rising large language model token consumption and a shift toward usage-based pricing as key drivers. Senior analyst Nitish Tyagi warned organisations often underestimate the financial impact of higher token use as AI coding agents move from trials to large-scale deployment. Gartner urged leaders to set usage standards, match models to task complexity and strengthen governance.
