South Korea semiconductor exports top $60 billion for first time in September, total exports up 84%

South Korea\'s semiconductor exports rose to $60.3 billion in September, the first time a single item topped $60 billion in a month, the industry ministry said. Total exports climbed 83.5 percent to $120.9 billion, also a monthly first, while imports rose 26.0 percent to $71.1 billion, lifting the trade surplus to $49.9 billion. Exports to China, the United States and ASEAN all increased sharply, led by semiconductors.

KOSPI rises for first time in four sessions on semiconductor gains, nears 7,000

South Korea\'s benchmark KOSPI climbed nearly 2 percent on Wednesday, led by gains in heavyweight semiconductor stocks such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. The index recovered from an early drop to the 6,700 level and finished around 6,900, closing up 133.31 points at 6,971.35. Institutions were net buyers, while individuals and foreigners sold. The KOSDAQ rose 4.48 percent. The won was little changed against the dollar.

First South Korea-U.S. strategic investment is Texas power plant; nuclear and LNG projects also pushed

South Korea and the United States have selected three areas for their first strategic investment projects: AI power, nuclear power and LNG. The two governments announced plans for a Texas gas-fired combined-cycle power plant, a framework to build eight large nuclear reactors in the United States, and a review of an Alaska LNG project. They said related procedures were completed as follow-up steps to a July trade agreement and a November investment memorandum.
