Lee Hoon-ki says LG Uplus should waive penalties if hacking evidence destruction confirmed
Lee Hoon-ki (이훈기), a lawmaker on the National Assembly\'s Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, urged government-level measures to protect users over suspicions that LG Uplus destroyed evidence related to hacking. The Ministry of Science and ICT has asked investigative authorities to probe alleged obstruction of official duties over the disposal of servers. Lee called for additional steps beyond awaiting police findings, including clarifying penalty waivers if intentional evidence destruction and interference are confirmed.

Broadcast Media Communications Commission unveils AI production cases used for action scenes, subtitles and audio description
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission held a seminar in Seoul on Thursday with the Korea Radio Promotion Association to share AI use in broadcasting production and services. Speakers presented an AI-made action sequence for an SBS drama and generative AI use in an MBC variety show. Broadcasters also introduced AI subtitles and audio description for sports coverage, AI voice for radio news, and automation tools for video editing and graphics work.

Revised Personal Information Protection Act takes effect on Sept. 11, introduces punitive fines
South Korea\'s revised Personal Information Protection Act and an amended enforcement decree take effect from Sept. 11, following revisions made in March. The changes introduce punitive administrative fines of up to 10 percent of total revenue for repeated or intentional or grossly negligent personal data leaks, and mandatory fine reductions linked to preventive investments. They also strengthen CEO and CPO responsibilities, expand leak notification requirements and add a new notification regime for leak risks.
