Procrastination may stem from fear of failure, not lack of willpower, study finds
People who procrastinate may avoid taking action not because they cannot set goals or imagine success, but because anxiety about failure is stronger, a study found. Researchers asked 111 British university students to propose short- and long-term goals and assessed avoidance, vividness of success imagery and anticipated anxiety about failure. Procrastination tendency did not affect how vividly success was imagined or perceived goal importance, but was linked to greater anxiety about failing, particularly for short-term goals.
