Kakao to shut KakaoTV service on June 30 after 9 years
Kakao will shut its video service KakaoTV on June 30, ending operations nine years after it was first introduced in 2017. The company said it made the decision after deliberation due to rapid shifts in the content market and changes in the operating environment. Ahead of the shutdown, Kakao will run a video backup process for creators and viewers. Users can back up uploaded videos from March 9 through June 30. New channel creation and VOD uploads will be fully suspended from June 1.
