Taiwan\'s secret to becoming a semiconductor powerhouse, as seen by Nvidia\'s Jensen Huang
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said Taiwan built global competitiveness in semiconductors through decades of cooperation with foreign companies, government industrial policies and accumulated manufacturing expertise. He said partnerships with European firms helped lay Taiwan\'s technical foundation, tracing early efforts back to the 1950s and the entry of Philips. Huang pointed to the growth of TSMC and ASML, PC market expansion, and sustained investment as key factors.

South Korea faces warnings of growing reliance on semiconductors
Warnings are growing that South Korea is shifting toward an economy led by a single semiconductor sector, similar to Taiwan. Record chip exports driven by AI demand are lifting potential growth forecasts and per-capita GDP projections. But analysts say gains are concentrating in Samsung Electronics and SK hynix as they handle production and packaging in-house. That could widen the gap between headline indicators and felt conditions, with institutions also warning of structural risks and weaker non-chip manufacturing.

Foundry power balance flips: Samsung\'s choice amid TSMC dominance
TSMC\'s dominant share of the global pure-play foundry market is hardening a structure in which big tech customers have less leverage in price talks. Counterpoint Research put TSMC\'s second-quarter share at 73 percent, with Samsung Electronics\' foundry business at 7 percent. The market grew 29 percent year on year, and both TSMC and Samsung raised wafer prices. Analysts cited capacity constraints and supply-demand imbalances. Samsung is prioritising yield improvements and expanding capacity, including a planned 2027 start-up of its Taylor, Texas plant.
