MSIT to expand quantum communications testbed to support commercialisation and overseas expansion

South Korea will expand its quantum communications demonstration base to support commercialisation and overseas expansion of domestic technology. The Ministry of Science and ICT said it held a kickoff briefing on the open quantum testbed upgrade and expansion project with the National Information Society Agency. The project will add three hubs for commercial, overseas and future uses from 2026 to 2028, with 7.4 billion won to be invested this year.

KT tests UAM on Incheon islands, verifies 5G and satellite network stability

KT tested AI-based urban air mobility (UAM) traffic management technology and the operability of 5G and satellite communications networks in island areas of Incheon, it said. KT said it completed a public UAM demonstration with Incheon city, the Aerospace Industry-Academia Convergence Institute and the K-UAM One Team. The test applied integrated operations capabilities to routes linking Yeongjongdo and Deokjeokdo and checked data-sharing systems among related agencies.

Battery industry shifts focus to sodium and all-solid-state for 2030 transition

South Korea\'s battery industry is shifting next-generation development from high-nickel NCM to sodium and all-solid-state batteries as China expands in low-cost LFP and moves to commercialise new technologies. The government and industry unveiled a battery technology roadmap and plan to launch a 400 billion won R&D programme from 2027 over five years. The roadmap targets commercialisation of both sodium and all-solid-state batteries in 2030.
