Google spots first real-world AI exploit of zero-day vulnerability
Google confirmed the first real-world case of cyber criminals using AI to find and weaponise a zero-day vulnerability, The Register reported. Google’s Threat Intelligence Group said a two-factor authentication bypass bug in a popular open-source web-based management platform was abused by criminals planning a large intrusion campaign. Google said it worked with the vendor to quietly deploy a patch before the campaign escalated and may have blocked the attack in advance.

HPE launches first integrated product after Juniper deal, introduces Wi-Fi 7 AP with AI autonomous operations
HPE has launched a Wi-Fi 7 access point with AI-based autonomous operations, described as its first integrated product since acquiring Juniper, The Register reported on May 8. The cloud-delivered product targets hotels, branch offices and work-from-home environments, and can be managed through both Aruba Central and the Mist platform. HPE executives outlined features including dynamic capacity optimisation, automated frequency avoidance, network self-healing and detection and blocking of abnormal DHCP servers.

IREN to acquire open-source cloud infrastructure firm Mirantis
Neo-cloud company IREN will acquire open-source cloud infrastructure specialist Mirantis, The Register reported on Thursday. Mirantis is known for OpenStack distributions, hyperconverged appliances and Kubernetes tools, and launched an AI infrastructure deployment automation platform, k0rdent AI, in 2025. Mirantis will continue as an independent business after the deal and support IREN cloud deployments. IREN began as Iris Energy in 2018, moved into generative AI infrastructure in 2023 and now runs six data centres.
