BMW Group keeps top share of EV sales in U.S., Hyundai Motor Group third

BMW Group kept the top spot among established automaker groups and alliances selling internal combustion models in the United States by battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales share, with BEVs accounting for 6 percent of its U.S. sales in the second quarter. General Motors raised its BEV share to 5 percent from 3.6 percent and moved up to second, overtaking Hyundai Motor Group. Hyundai Motor Group’s BEV share rose to 4.5 percent, but it slipped to third.

TikTok and Whatnot drive U.S. shopping livestream market toward $20 billion this year

The U.S. shopping livestream market is entering a growth phase around TikTok and Whatnot, CMBC reported on Sept. 1. EMARKETER forecast U.S. live commerce sales will reach about $19.8 billion this year, up 35 percent from 2025. TikTok Shop said its first-half sales more than doubled. Whatnot raised $545 million and was valued at $20 billion. Platform fees and counterfeit controls remain challenges.

U.S. SEC cracks down on AI pre-IPO stock investment frenzy, demands proof of actual stakes

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is moving to verify the substance of pre-IPO stock investment products sold by investment firms, as demand rises for exposure to popular AI startups such as OpenAI and Anthropic. The SEC has told registered investment advisers to prove their special purpose vehicles actually hold the promoted stakes or exposure. The agency has previously pursued similar cases and has warned that tokenisation does not itself guarantee ownership.
