The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission will hold a public roundtable on Sept. 17 in Washington to discuss expanding overnight trading and options for running a 24-hour U.S. stock market. The agenda includes operational requirements, system resilience and other issues needed to support overnight trading. The discussion comes as major exchanges move to extend trading hours. Nasdaq has begun talks on offering 24-hour trading five days a week, targeting the second half of 2026.

Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon has formally voiced support for the U.S. Clarity Act, saying it can help create fair competition and promote market stability and development. The bill aims to clarify oversight between the SEC and CFTC and reshape digital asset regulation. Major banking and finance groups, including the American Bankers Association, warned stablecoin provisions could shift insured deposits to digital asset platforms and reduce community banks’ lending capacity. Opposition has also spread beyond banks.
