U.S. SEC sets 2027 exam priorities, flags AI superintelligence and tokenisation risks

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has added AI superintelligence and tokenisation to its examination priorities for fiscal 2027, expanding its review of technology risks in capital markets. The SEC’s Division of Examinations said it will assess how AI tools used by registered firms affect compliance programmes and fraud detection. It also listed risks tied to evolving market infrastructure, including tokenisation and related developments. The priorities apply to more than 34,000 registered entities.

XRP treasury firm Evernos pursues Strategy-style fundraising, size unclear

Evernos, an XRP treasury firm, plans to raise about $80.7 million by selling up to 5,218,935 newly issued Class A common shares to CF Principal Investments, an affiliate of Cantor Fitzgerald. It estimates net proceeds of about $78.3 million after fees and costs. The company plans to use most of the funds to buy more XRP. It is also pursuing funding through warrant exercises that could bring in about $132.2 million if fully exercised in cash.

Thailand allows spot crypto ETFs, but approval this year uncertain

Thailand has implemented a framework allowing spot exchange-traded funds tied to bitcoin and ether, but no asset manager has submitted a formal application. The Thai Securities and Exchange Commission said several firms asked for preliminary consultations, but none moved to the filing stage. The SEC said it was too early to judge whether the first ETF could be approved this year, adding the timing could vary depending on applicant readiness, regulatory review and investor protection requirements.
