Japan speeds up \'physical AI\' push amid severe labour shortages

Tech industry urges Pentagon, Congress to withdraw Anthropic \'supply chain risk\' designation
The tech industry is protesting after Anthropic was designated a “supply chain risk” following a dispute with the U.S. government. TechCrunch reported that hundreds of tech workers signed an open letter urging the Defense Department to withdraw the designation. Signatories included OpenAI, Slack, IBM and Salesforce Ventures. Anthropic opposed the use of AI for mass surveillance or weapons systems without human involvement and refused talks with the Pentagon.

AI code translation startup Code Metal raises $125 million
Code Metal, which develops an AI-based code translation platform, has raised $125 million, SiliconANGLE reported on Feb. 20 local time. The round was led by Salesforce Ventures and included Accel, B Capital, Smithpoint Capital, J2 Ventures, Shield Capital and RTX. Code Metal’s valuation increased to $1.25 billion. The platform translates between programming languages and uses mathematical verification techniques to reduce errors.
