Robot AI software company Skilled AI has completed a $1.4 billion funding round, SiliconANGLE reported on Tuesday. Investors included SoftBank, Nvidia's NVentures, Bezos Expeditions led by Jeff Bezos, Salesforce Ventures and Samsung Electronics.
Skilled AI plans to use the funding to upgrade infrastructure for training AI models and to accelerate commercial expansion.
Skilled AI developed a robot-focused AI model called Skilled Brain. The company said Skilled Brain, unlike existing AI, does not need to be trained to fit specific robot hardware, a feature it said gives it broad applicability.
To do that, Skilled AI trained more than 100,000 robot forms in a simulated environment. It also said it continues to collect data and improve performance after deployment in real robots.
Skilled AI is currently applying Skilled Brain at industrial sites such as data centres and factories. It plans to expand into the consumer robot market.
