Code Metal, which developed an AI-based code translation platform, has raised $125 million, SiliconANGLE reported on Feb. 20 local time.
The funding round was led by Salesforce Ventures with participation from Accel, B Capital, Smithpoint Capital, J2 Ventures, Shield Capital and RTX. Code Metal's valuation increased to $1.25 billion.
Code Metal's platform supports translation between programming languages. It lets developers write prototypes in high-level languages such as Python instead of complex low-level languages, then automatically converts them. This strengthens memory safety and speeds code migration between chips, helping reduce silicon dependency.
The translation process is carried out in stages, with AI automatically converting the code into a new language after analysis. It uses mathematical verification techniques to minimise errors and complies with MC/DC standards, allowing it to be applied to sensitive tasks such as aircraft control software. Translated code also includes functions to compare it with the original and collect performance data.
Code Metal's customers include large industrial companies such as Toshiba, Robert Bosch and RTX. Code Metal plans to use the funding to expand its engineering staff and accelerate product development.
