April Fools joke turns into spat as Ripple and Avalanche clash over bank blockchain
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse (브래드 갈링하우스) hit back at comments by Avalanche founder Emin Gun Sirer (에민 귄 시러) over which blockchain banks use. Sirer posted on X that banks choose Ripple, then said it was an April Fools joke and argued financial institutions actually use Avalanche. Garlinghouse replied that Ripple was living “rent-free” in his head. The two projects tout different institutional strategies, and Ripple also cited progress on payments and U.S. banking approvals.

Ripple seeks Australian financial services licence
Ripple said on March 11 it is seeking an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) as part of efforts to expand its regulated business scope in the Asia-Pacific region. It plans to obtain the licence through the acquisition of BC Payments Australia. Once the acquisition is completed, Ripple aims to run an integrated platform managing the full transaction process, from funding and foreign exchange to liquidity management and final payment.

Ripple expands stablecoin payments stack for banks and fintechs
Ripple is expanding its Ripple Payments stablecoin payments platform aimed at banks and fintech firms, Cointelegraph reported on Monday. The move is intended to ease the burden of holding funds overseas and increase the speed of cross-border transactions. Ripple said it upgraded Ripple Payments to support the full stablecoin processing flow, including collection, custody, conversion and payout. The platform operates in more than 60 markets and has processed over $100 billion in transactions.
