Sam Altman rules out four-day workweek, says working hours will not fall
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman (샘 알트먼) said he does not expect overall working hours to fall even as artificial intelligence spreads. In a podcast interview, he rejected hopes that AI will usher in a four-day workweek or shorter hours, arguing that technology has long promised more leisure but has not delivered. He cited human competitiveness, saying higher productivity often leads people to demand more output. He also said people will likely stay very busy even after superintelligence.

Tesla Optimus key developer launches humanoid startup, lines up 50 potential customers
An engineer who worked on Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robot has launched a new humanoid robotics startup in Europe, aiming to deploy general-purpose AI humanoids in manufacturing and logistics. Remi Cadene, co-founder and CEO of Paris-based UMA, unveiled plans for its Northstar robot and said the company is discussing adoption with about 50 potential customers. UMA plans to start industrial pilot programs this year and prioritise Europe.

LG Energy Solution first global battery maker to top 100,000 patent applications
LG Energy Solution has become the first battery company to surpass 100,000 patent applications globally, the company said on Saturday. As of last month, it had about 59,000 registered patents and more than 100,000 patent applications. It said it invested 1.33 trillion won in R&D last year after first exceeding 1 trillion won in annual R&D spending in 2023, and cited patents spanning materials, electrode design, cells, packs, BMS and manufacturing.
