Shinsegae chairman Chung Yong-jin attends Foundry School launch ceremony
Shinsegae Group said its Chairman Chung Yong-jin attended the launch ceremony of Foundry School in Washington on Sept. 3 local time. The U.S. State Department-led project aims to foster future talent for manufacturing and advanced industries through industry-academia cooperation. U.S. officials and ReflectionAI’s CEO highlighted Shinsegae’s partnership with ReflectionAI. Shinsegae said it is working on establishing a joint venture and selecting a site for a large AI data centre project in South Korea.

SpaceX in talks with Pentagon to provide multibillion-dollar AI data centre capacity
SpaceX is negotiating with the U.S. Department of Defense to provide data centre capacity to run AI models, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The talks involve several billion dollars and could still fall through. SpaceX has been expanding its cloud computing business and has discussed offering lower-priced capacity to AI customers. The Pentagon is seeking cloud infrastructure and has asked Congress for $30 billion for an AI initiative.

Meta steps up cloud infrastructure push, considers selling AI models
Meta is stepping up efforts to enter the cloud business using data centres built with large capital outlays, Bloomberg News reported. It is preparing a cloud infrastructure service that sells AI computing power along with access to models, putting it in competition with major providers such as AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. Meta is considering renting computing capacity and offering access to AI models running on its infrastructure.
