Korean security industry pushes AI deployment as M&A gains momentum
Korean security companies are stepping up AI-related moves as the global security market reshapes around AI. East Security is launching an endpoint detection and response product linked to LG AI Research’s K-EXAONE model and signed an MOU with FuriosaAI. Theori supplied an AI-based penetration-testing tool to Woori Financial Group, and Cluocus is accelerating AI security efforts. M&A is also emerging, with Nets acquiring API security firm Softfreak.

U.S. allows private firms to join offensive cyber operations for first time
The U.S. government has for the first time allowed some private companies to take part in offensive cyber operations targeting international criminal groups and hackers. The White House said it will use private-sector capabilities to counter cyber threats aimed at Americans, including ransomware and financial fraud. Participating firms may conduct surveillance and disruption activities but are not allowed to carry out retaliation hacking independently. Operations must be overseen by the federal government and approved by Justice and Homeland Security officials.

KISA to hold ransomware resilience conference to discuss prevention and recovery strategies
Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) said it will hold the fifth Ransomware Resilience Conference with the Ministry of Science and ICT on Sept. 16 in Seoul. The event will share the importance of end-to-end response, including preventing damage spread, restoring core operations and preventing reinfection after incidents. It will cover evolving threats, response strategies, AI-based analysis and industry cases. KISA reported 145 ransomware victim reports in the first half.
