Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) said on Tuesday it will hold the fifth Ransomware Resilience Conference with the Ministry of Science and ICT on Sept. 16 at Peace & Park Convention in Seoul's Yongsan district.

The event was 마련됐다 to share the importance of end-to-end 대응 that goes beyond blocking ransomware attacks in advance to include preventing the spread of damage after an incident, restoring core operations and preventing reinfection.

The event will cover the evolution of ransomware threats, end-to-end response strategies, AI-based ransomware analysis and industry-by-industry response cases. It will focus in particular on ways to minimise damage and secure business continuity through incident response and recovery.

Ransomware 피해 has been rising and attack methods are becoming more sophisticated. Ransomware victim reports filed with KISA in the first half of this year totalled 145 cases, up 76.8 percent from 82 cases a year earlier.

Double and triple extortion schemes, in which attackers demand money by threatening to release stolen data, are spreading. Concerns are also growing about automated attacks using AI agents.

KISA, together with a 'ransomware end-to-end response task force' launched in March and the National Police Agency, also analysed flaws in the encryption methods used by attackers and developed recovery tools for variant ransomware. It fully recovered encrypted data for 2 companies that reported 피해, and those companies did not pay the total 770,000,000 won in decryption costs demanded by the attackers.

KISA President Sang-joong Lee (이상중) said it was crucial to build end-to-end response capabilities that cover the periods before and after incidents as ransomware threats become more sophisticated. He said he hoped the conference would help the public and private sectors flesh out an effective ransomware response system together.
