Science, ICT and Broadcasting committee adopts hearing report on Go Gwang-heon nominee
South Korea\'s National Assembly Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee adopted a hearing report on Go Gwang-heon (고광헌), nominee for the first chair of the Broadcast Media Communications Review Commission. The report was approved under the leadership of the Democratic Party after People Power Party lawmakers did not take part in the vote. The report will be sent to the government without a plenary vote. Go will take office if President Lee Jae-myung approves it.

South Korea sets out \'K-Science\' drive as part of national R&D investment plan
South Korea has presented \'K-Science\' as one direction for its science and technology R&D policy, aiming to build a global-leading paradigm based on the country’s own data and research areas. The science ministry approved a draft 2027 national R&D investment plan that also boosts AI and strategic technology investment and calls for changes to restore the research ecosystem, including basic research support and measures to improve investment effectiveness.

Korea to set up standing consultative body on national R&D budget planning
Korea’s Planning and Budget Office and the Ministry of Science and ICT will strengthen cooperation to improve the efficiency and consistency of R&D investment, officials said. This year’s R&D budget totals 35.5 trillion won, with 30.5 trillion won in major programmes first drafted by the science ministry’s Innovation Headquarters before final compilation by the planning office. The ministries will create a monthly director-general level council, expand mutual participation in budget processes and tighten rules on late-stage submission of new projects from 2027 planning.
