Sony to end physical PlayStation game discs from 2028, halt optical disc production
Sony will stop producing physical optical discs for new PlayStation games from January 2028. It said new games will be sold only in digital form through the PlayStation Store and retail distribution channels, a move expected to affect users, offline retailers and game preservation groups. Sony cited changing consumer patterns, with digital downloads accounting for 78 percent of game purchases in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. Critics raised concerns about reduced consumer choice and ownership rights.

SKT launches priority transmission service for firefighters
SK Telecom will launch a priority transmission service from June 10 to help firefighters respond quickly at disaster sites with stable communications. The service is designed to minimise delays in firefighters’ voice and data connections when network traffic surges in a specific area due to earthquakes, fires, large crowds or multiple accidents. It grants top access rights to pre-certified National Fire Agency corporate lines and will operate alongside the government-led PS-LTE network.

Emergency rescue priority transmission service launches for firefighters\' communications
South Korea will begin full implementation on June 10 of an emergency rescue communications priority transmission service that gives precedence to calls between firefighters at disaster sites and ordinary users when demand for mobile service surges. The science ministry said it confirmed the service meets special-service requirements under net neutrality guidelines. The three mobile carriers applied dedicated USIMs to firefighting devices. The ministry said it is the first case since 2011 deemed to meet special-service criteria.
