Salesforce in talks to buy ListenLabs for $2 billion, targeting AI-based market research

Salesforce is in talks to acquire AI-based customer research platform ListenLabs in a deal valued at $2 billion, Business Insider reported on Sept. 9. The report said the negotiations have not been finalised and could fall through. Founded in 2023, ListenLabs provides AI-based market analysis services to clients including Anthropic, Google and Nestle. Earlier this year it was valued at $500 million in a funding round joined by Sequoia Capital, Ribbit Capital and Conviction Partners.

Tech Insight: Nvidia\'s Hugging Face acquisition highlights shift in AI power

Two recent deals in the AI market have drawn attention: Nvidia\'s $12.9 billion acquisition of Hugging Face and payments platform Stripe\'s $7.5 billion purchase of AI model routing firm OpenRouter. Menlo Ventures principal C.C. Gong wrote on X that both companies benefited as AI models became more common. He said their value lies in aggregation, tooling and communities that shape where developers run models, creating network effects that acquirers can monetise.

China AI shifts fight to inference costs, testing U.S. dominance

Chinese AI models are shaking U.S. dominance in the global AI market by offering lower inference costs, an analysis said. Juniper Research said rapid performance gains and low costs are changing developers’ model choices, with competition shifting to how cheaply inference can be delivered in real services. On OpenRouter, the combined share of U.S. models has fallen, while usage of Chinese models has surged and surpassed U.S. models by early June.
