Kakao expands AI training for NGO activists

Kakao said on Wednesday it is recruiting participants for its KakaoTech NGO AI Class to help improve artificial intelligence capabilities of activists at domestic non-profit groups. The programme expands an AI training project previously run for small business owners. Kakao plans to select 100 participants from 50 groups, with applications open through Aug. 9. Training will be held offline over two days at its Pangyo site, with introductory and advanced courses.

KakaoTalk expands AI features from chat summaries to image generation

Kakao on Tuesday rolled out its sixth regular KakaoTalk update, expanding AI-based features aimed at user convenience. The update focuses on linking everyday communication and AI use across mobile and PC without interruption. It adds chatroom message summaries, extends \"ChatGPT for Kakao\" to the PC version, and introduces image regeneration using \"ChatGPT Image 2.0\". Open chat also gains a beta chatbot, and channel chat messages can be deleted within 24 hours.

Amended Information and Communications Network Act takes effect targeting fake information; platforms make initial call, courts have final say

South Korea will implement an amended Information and Communications Network Act on July 7, allowing up to five times punitive damages and fines of up to 1 billion won for distributing false or manipulated information. The law applies to those who post and circulate content, including comments, and platforms can delete or limit exposure after reviewing reports under their policies. Private messaging is excluded, but open chat services may be covered. Platforms make initial determinations, while courts make final rulings on falsity and liability.
