Kakao will open an online cheering space on KakaoTalk timed to South Korea national team soccer matches, supporting real-time communication among users.
Kakao said on June 11 it will run a participatory campaign on KakaoTalk called the 'KaTalk Cheering Event', where users communicate and cheer together.
The campaign is available in the 'Now' tab, the third tab in KakaoTalk. The event will run three times in total, starting with a first round, held in cooperation with Nexon’s online soccer game 'FC Online' through June 12, followed by a second round on June 18 to 19 and a third round on June 24 to 25.
On match days, it will provide dedicated cheering rooms in Open Chat communities for the first and second halves and halftime. The rooms comprise three spaces: 'Legend Room' and 'Icon Room' for soccer-related conversation, and a 'Solitude Room' focused on image-based communication.
It has also prepared various participatory programs. Quiz event participants will be entered into a draw to receive a 2026 national team uniform and Nexon mobile gift vouchers, among other items. It also supports a feature to decorate profiles with special images and enter designated cheering scripts.
The campaign’s main page will also link additional content, including watching soccer short-form videos, exploring Open Chat and a soccer bot offering mini-games.
A Kakao official said, "We prepared this campaign so that KakaoTalk becomes an online cheering section for all citizens, allowing users to communicate easily and enjoyably while sharing the fun of cheering." The official added, "We plan to continue presenting participatory experiences in the 'Now' tab that naturally connect people around shared interests and allow them to enjoy things together."
