Kakao introduced a new feature through an update to its messaging app KakaoTalk that lets users hide friends’ feed posts.

Kakao said on Thursday that a 'Hide posts' function was added to the feed in a recent update to KakaoTalk version 26.2.0.

The function hides updates from friends whose interests do not match or whose posts users do not want to see. It takes effect immediately by tapping Hide posts in the more menu at the top right of a post. The friendship on KakaoTalk remains unchanged, while users can keep their feed filled only with the updates they want. Users can unhide posts in KakaoTalk settings under Friends and Hidden friends management.

The update also significantly improves the convenience of its video call service FaceTalk. It allows recording for up to 30 minutes in one-on-one calls. It also adds a function that summarises the contents after a call ends and leaves it in the relevant chat room.

It also adds customised notification settings for open chat users. Users can turn off notifications for new replies to comments they joined, or turn on notifications even for comment conversations they did not join, enabling flexible conversation management depending on the situation.

In addition, a Discovery tab has been added to the emoji keyboard area, allowing users to see at a glance free emojis offered every Monday, recommended emojis and real-time rankings. TokCloud, which stores photos, files and links, revamped its home screen and improved navigation so users can view recently exchanged materials immediately.
