DGIST holding firm forms first 2 billion won fund to support deep tech startups
Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) holding company DGIST Technology Holding formed its first investment fund of about 2 billion won and will invest in early-stage deep tech firms and campus startups. DGIST said the holding firm began investment activity after holding a general meeting to form the fund. The fund will focus on national strategic technology areas such as AI, robotics, advanced semiconductors and bio-healthcare.

Government to refill vacant K-Moonshot AI scientist project director post
The government will reopen applications to fill the project director post for the AI scientist mission under the K-Moonshot project, which had become vacant. The National Research Council of Science and Technology is reported to have tabled a recruitment plan at a recent written meeting. It plans to run an open hiring process for about two weeks and expects the selected director to start around September. The role became vacant after a resignation citing conflicts of interest.

Young postdoctoral researchers to join companies in joint research on national strategic technologies
South Korea’s government will support young postdoctoral researchers and back industry-academia joint research in national strategic technology fields. The Ministry of Science and ICT said it selected 13 new consortia for its 2026 Strategic Technology Postdoctoral Industry-Academia Project. Companies will identify technology demand and form consortia with universities and state-funded research institutes. Selected consortia can receive up to 580 million won over two years, including personnel costs for postdoctoral researchers.
