Clean energy fake news spreads in U.S., distorting narratives on EVs and wind power
False information about electric vehicles and renewable energy is making the United States\' transition to clean energy more difficult, an analyst wrote. Writer and researcher Carolyn Fortuna said distorted claims about climate science, EVs and wind power repeatedly spread and blur public risk perceptions about fossil fuels and clean technologies. She cited an internal email at the Energy Department and disputes over EV fires, offshore wind and whale deaths, and low-frequency turbine noise.

U.S. uncrewed surface vessel completes first autonomous crossing of Taiwan Strait, tracks Chinese warships
U.S. maritime uncrewed systems company Seasats said its Lightfish uncrewed surface vessel completed the first fully autonomous crossing of the Taiwan Strait. The craft was operated remotely from hundreds of miles away and covered more than 1,000 nautical miles over 5 days while continuously monitoring maritime traffic. Seasats said it encountered multiple Chinese naval vessels, tracked their positions and obtained photo evidence identifying their type and origin.

Aging Earth magnetic field data could hit navigation for aircraft and drones
Warnings are growing that navigation accuracy for aircraft and drones could be disrupted as reference data used by electronic compasses ages quickly. Electronic compasses rely on Earth magnetic field models, unlike GPS, and the World Magnetic Model underpins compass functions in most devices. Earth’s magnetic field is constantly changing, shortening model validity. Concerns are also rising that an end to ESA’s Swarm mission could weaken data reliability, prompting U.S. efforts to develop near real-time magnetic sensing technology.
