Microsoft pushes to produce 300,000 in-house AI chips next year, in talks with TSMC
Microsoft aims to sharply increase production of its next-generation in-house AI chips next year to win large customers such as Anthropic, The Information reported, citing two people familiar with the matter. The company plans to unveil the new Maia300 chip this autumn, possibly as soon as next month, and is negotiating with TSMC to secure 2027 capacity of more than 300,000 chips. It ultimately wants capacity above 1 million chips, but may face constraints.

ByteDance targets mass production of in-house AI CPU by 2027 to cut GPU reliance
TikTok owner ByteDance is accelerating development of a next-generation in-house central processing unit as AI services drive a surge in computing demand. It is seeking to reduce reliance on external GPUs and raise the share of its own semiconductors. The company aims to complete the CPU design by early 2027 and begin mass production and internal deployment in the second half of that year. It is also working with Qualcomm and seeking foundry capacity.

SKT wraps up in-house \'AX Challenge\' hackathon; non-developers make up 50 percent
SK Telecom said on Thursday it has wrapped up its in-house AI hackathon, the \'AX Challenge\', held from May 19 to 21 under the theme \'AI that changes daily life\' to accelerate group-wide AI transformation. The company said 54 teams and 115 people submitted proposals, with non-developer participants accounting for 50 percent. Four teams were selected as top entries in the final round on May 21.
