MSIT launches support programme to build university research security management systems

South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT will launch a support programme to strengthen research security capabilities at universities. The ministry held a briefing on June 5 and outlined plans to help universities establish their own research security management systems and sustainable operating foundations. The programme will run from July 2026 to December 2028, selecting eight universities and providing up to about 500 million won per university annually, with lower support this year.

MSIT releases draft AI ethics principles, seeks public feedback until July

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Information Society Development Institute said on May 28 they had prepared a draft of artificial intelligence ethics principles and would begin collecting public 의견 from May 29. The draft inherits the 2020 government-wide AI ethics standards and reflects enforcement of the AI Basic Act and changes in technology and the social environment. It sets three core values and six principles and seeks feedback until July 8 via an online channel.

MSIT, MFDS demo AI imported food inspection solution to speed public AX

South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety held a demonstration on May 27 of an artificial intelligence imported food inspection solution in Cheongju. Developed under the government’s public AX project, the system automatically reviews Korean labelling and rapidly identifies hazardous imported foods. The solution is to be installed on the Import Safety Electronic Review 24 platform.
