Philippines considers electric ferries on thousands of routes; will Norway model work
The Philippines is reviewing the introduction of electric and hybrid passenger ferries tailored to its waterways, drawing on Norway’s operating experience. Officials and industry representatives visited Norway to inspect electric ferry operations and charging facilities. Norway began running the fully electric car ferry MF Ampere in 2015 and has about 180 electric ferries on more than 100 routes. The Philippines already operates an in-house electric ferry on the Pasig River.
