Kakao Games restarts M&A with Metoon acquisition

Kakao Games, which has been selling non-core affiliates and stakes, has put mergers and acquisitions back at the centre of its growth strategy under new management. The company decided on Sept. 15 to spend about 98 billion won to acquire 39.56% of Metoon through a combination of secondary share purchases and a third-party share issue. Kakao Games will become Metoon’s largest shareholder and gain management control once the deal closes. It has also signalled further investment.

Lionheart Studio held internal interviewer training for managers to improve the selection of talent and strengthen hiring expertise. The company ran the programme from June 30 to July 2 for directors, department heads, unit leaders, team leaders and part leaders. The training focused on interview techniques to identify applicants’ capabilities and potential and to improve judgment in identifying talent aligned with the company’s vision.

From Kakao to Line Yahoo: KakaoGames launches new management setup

KakaoGames has launched a co-CEO management structure as it accelerates a shift to a Line Yahoo-led setup following a change in its top shareholder. Shareholders approved the appointment of Kim Tae-hwan and Lee Si-woo as inside directors, and the board later named them co-CEOs. The company said 300 billion won in new funds flowed in through a share sale and convertible bonds. Key tasks include detailing Line Yahoo synergies and delivering results from new game launches in the second half.
