Google Nebraska data centre figures exposed, including water use

Figures for water and power use at Google’s Nebraska data centres, which the company requested be treated as trade secrets, were exposed after flawed redaction in an annual report. Copying and pasting blacked-out text revealed key numbers, including maximum power demand, annual water consumption and expected tax refunds. The report also stated the facilities used or planned to use certain tax exemptions but did not receive incentives under another state law.

Chinese EVs may enter U.S. via joint sales with American automakers - survey

Chinese electric vehicles could enter the U.S. market most likely through joint sales with local automakers, a survey of Electrek readers showed. Most respondents said it was only a matter of time before Chinese EVs arrive, citing potential partnerships with General Motors, Ford or Stellantis and distribution through dealer networks. Some said it would never happen, expecting the U.S. government to effectively close the border. The survey also highlighted that U.S. brands already sell China-made vehicles.

Red Hat launches Asago to lead open-source project automating AI governance

Red Hat has launched an open-source community project called Asago to automatically convert AI governance policies into operational controls. The project links policy requirements to deployment configurations that can be applied to AI systems, and automates policy interpretation, risk assessment, safeguard recommendations and configuration creation. It maps policies to standards such as the NIST AI risk framework, OWASP LLM Top 10 and the EU AI Act, and supports hybrid cloud and Kubernetes deployments.
