MSIT, KIPO launch kickoff meeting for patent information AI agent project

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korean Intellectual Property Office held a kickoff meeting on Friday for the second year of development of the \"Easy patent information agent model\" at the government complex in Daejeon. The project is part of the ministry\'s Public AX Project. This year the agencies plan to expand the model\'s functions and apply it to KIPRIS, KIPO\'s intellectual property information search service.

South Korea to pick K-Startup of the Year 2026, raises prize to 500 million won

South Korea launched its largest multi-ministry startup competition, K-Startup of the Year 2026, with an integrated announcement on March 27. Nine ministries will jointly run the contest, which was revamped from Challenge! K-Startup and refocused on early-stage firms alongside a new startup project for aspiring founders. The top prize rises to 500 million won, and follow-up support expands to the top 20 teams. An AI league is newly added among 12 leagues.

Shinhan Bank named top bank for IP-secured loans

Shinhan Bank said on Tuesday it received an award as an outstanding bank for intellectual property-secured loans at an awards ceremony held during the first IP Finance Council meeting in 2026, hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office. The bank said it has built a support system that allows intellectual property to be used as financial assets based on a technology-evaluation credit review framework. It said its IP-secured loan volume in 2025 rose about 37 percent from a year earlier.
