Guhyeok-chae attends quantum strategic technology forum, vows to detail medium-to-long-term strategy
Guhyeok-chae (구혁채), first vice minister at the Ministry of Science and ICT, discussed a medium- to long-term development strategy for quantum technology with representatives from industry, academia and research. He attended the 2026 Quantum National Strategic Technology National Assembly Policy Forum held on Sept. 9 at the National Assembly Museum. The forum followed the government’s selection last month of quantum as a next-generation frontier field under its seven SEED future growth engines.

UST expands deep-tech student startup cooperation with seven national research institutes
University of Science and Technology (UST) said it signed a joint agreement with seven national research institutes to promote student startups based on public technology. The deal follows an earlier agreement with five institutes, bringing participating institutes to 12. The partners plan to build a professor-student startup model spanning technology transfer and equity contributions, and to provide mentoring, education, equipment and funding support. UST also cited rule changes and startup programs to strengthen support.

MSIT to step up quantum cooperation with Canada, UK and EU around Quantum Korea
South Korea will expand cooperation on quantum technologies with Canada, Britain and the European Union, including joint research, talent exchanges, industrialisation, trials and standardisation. The Ministry of Science and ICT said it held government-to-government dialogues and roundtables around Quantum Korea 2026 to discuss cooperation. It reviewed existing programmes with Canada, discussed links between initiatives with Britain, and talked with the EU about Horizon Europe participation and stronger ties among quantum clusters.
