South Korea to spend 49.5 billion won on AI-native autonomous bio labs
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT held a launch briefing on June 12 for a project to build AI-native autonomous laboratories for advanced bio research. The ministry plans to invest 49.5 billion won from 2026 to 2028 to establish 1 general-purpose autonomous lab and 5 specialised labs. The project aims to ease bottlenecks in bio R&D, promote lab-level AI transformation and create a closed-loop environment.

MSIT holds briefing on science and technology R&D policy and key programmes
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT held a briefing on Tuesday on its 2026 science and technology research and development policy and key programmes. The event, held at Konkuk University, drew about 300 participants and was also livestreamed on the ministry\'s YouTube channel. The ministry said it will invest about 6.4 trillion won in science and technology R&D this year and focus spending on basic research safety nets and strategic technologies.

MSIT announces new projects for first-half nano and materials R&D program
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT on Jan. 30 announced its 2026 plan to select new projects under its nano and materials technology development program. The program\'s budget is 268.4 billion won, up 6.4 percent from a year earlier. The ministry will provide 23.6 billion won for 21 project calls in the first-half notice and will issue a separate notice in April for projects starting in the second half.
