Samsung Electronics to support paperless train tickets on Samsung Wallet
Samsung Electronics will work with Korail to expand the use of mobile train tickets in South Korea. From Aug. 10, customers who buy tickets at Korail station counters and pay through Samsung Wallet will have a mobile boarding pass added automatically. Tickets issued through the Korail+ integrated app can also be added using an Add to Wallet feature. From September, tickets for services will also be supported, and refunds can be processed within Samsung Wallet.

Upstage CEO Kim Sung-hoon says Fable5 foreign access ban highlights need for Korean sovereign AI
Upstage, a South Korean AI startup, said it aims to compete in global technology rivalry with sovereign AI. CEO Kim Sung-hoon said AI has become a national strategic asset and countries can cut off access. He cited a recent U.S. move to block foreigners from accessing Anthropic’s Fable5 and Mythos5. Upstage said its open-source Solar Open2 preview scored 44.4 on AAII 4.0 and is comparable to leading models.

Mobility platforms target festival, tourism demand to monetise movement data
With the May holiday period approaching, mobility platforms in South Korea are expanding into festivals and tourism to monetise accumulated movement data and user bases. Companies are linking data to local government event operations, shuttle services and foreign tourist group travel. TMAP Mobility is applying an AI festival-movement solution to a horticulture expo, while Kakao T Shuttle is adding event routes. Socar is running discounts in depopulating areas, and Whistle is expanding parking enforcement alerts.
