Samsung Electronics is working with Korail (Korea Railroad Corp) to promote the shift of train tickets to mobile. Samsung Electronics said on Aug. 10 it started a "paperless ticket" service on Samsung Wallet from Aug. 10.
The service automatically adds a mobile boarding pass when a customer buys a ticket at an offline counter at a Korail station and pays through Samsung Wallet. This is the first time Samsung Wallet supports mobile boarding passes in South Korea. Tickets issued through the Korail-SR integrated app, Korail+, launched on Aug. 3 can also be added to Samsung Wallet using an "Add to Wallet" feature.
From September, the integrated service will expand as SRT is changed to KTX-Sancheon. Tickets for September services can be added to Samsung Wallet. Samsung Electronics also supports processing returns (refunds) for mobile tickets within Samsung Wallet for customer convenience.
Mobile tickets added to Galaxy devices are automatically linked with Calendar and Now Brief, among other services. Customers can receive advance alerts for train boarding times and manage travel schedules systematically.
Chae Won-cheol (채원철), head of the Digital Wallet Team at Samsung Electronics' MX Division and a vice president, said, "We are pleased to be able to successfully implement the 'paperless ticket' service through our partnership with Korail," and added, "We will not only continue to provide convenience in customers' daily lives, but also actively lead the spread of paperless living and environmental protection."
