New York woman loses $300,000 in cryptocurrency scam

A 73-year-old woman in New York lost $300,000 in retirement savings after responding to a WhatsApp message advertising cryptocurrency investment lessons, investigators said. Authorities said tailored investment scams using AI tools are increasing. They traced 14 wallet addresses used in the transfers to five laundering wallets linked to about $5 million taken from multiple victims. U.S. agencies also warned of common red flags such as unsolicited contact, urgency and requests for secrecy.
