MSIT discusses national R&D system overhaul with university industry-academia cooperation units

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT held a meeting in Seoul on Thursday with heads of university industry-academia cooperation units, research office chiefs and officials from four science and technology institutes to discuss a planned overhaul of national research administration. The ministry briefed participants on key points of the 2026 national R&D administration reform plan and collected input on implementation. Talks gather pace on law to institutionalise basic financial rights

Discussions are gaining pace in South Korea on enacting a Basic Financial Security Act to guarantee financial access for low-income and low-credit groups. A policy forum in parliament reviewed legal and policy tasks, outcomes of existing programmes, overseas systems and potential economic and social effects. Proposals call for expanding policy-based finance beyond funding to link counselling, debt adjustment, recovery, self-reliance and asset building through a one-stop support system.

AI, 6G, semiconductor ideas compete at ICT Challenge 2026 awards

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT held the ICT Challenge 2026 awards ceremony and a meeting with winning students on Aug. 26 with IITP and a university research centre association. The contest pits master\'s and doctoral students in ministry-backed programmes on the technical merit, marketability and commercialisation potential of research ideas. This year drew 206 teams from 39 universities. Sixteen teams won after mentoring from KT and AWS Korea staff.
