Telecoms\' Q1 results diverge after hacking incidents; SKT and KT profitability slows
A series of hacking incidents last year is expected to affect South Korea\'s three mobile carriers in the first quarter. SK Telecom and KT are seen posting weaker results as compensation payments and marketing costs weigh on profitability. LG Uplus is forecast to be the only one to report gains in both sales and operating profit, helped by subscriber inflows and growth in new businesses. Analysts also see scope for a recovery in the second half.

Same SIM replacement, different scenes: temperature gap among South Korea\'s three telecoms
All three of South Korea’s mobile carriers have moved to replace SIM cards over the past year, but market reactions have diverged. SK Telecom faced confusion and shortages after news of SIM hacking and the leakage of information linked to 23 million subscribers, driving a surge in demand. KT and LG Uplus carried out replacement more quietly. The industry attributes the gap to differences in incident nature, user psychology and response strategies, while noting trust recovery remains a task.
