Taiwan sets record 2027 technology budget to boost sovereign AI and computing infrastructure
Taiwan\'s government has set a record technology budget for 2027, stepping up investment to strengthen AI and semiconductor competitiveness. The plan makes building “sovereign AI” computing infrastructure a core task and aims to expand national-level investment to respond to global AI competition and geopolitical risks. The budget includes funding for the Smart Nation 2.0 programme, next-generation strategic technologies, semiconductor projects, net-zero technologies, regional industrial development, and space and communications initiatives.

FuriosaAI to build 15 MW data centre in Sweden with RNGD
FuriosaAI said on Tuesday it will join U.S. AI infrastructure company I/ONX HPC and data centre developer and operator Velox in a project to build a 15 MW AI data centre in Stockholm, Sweden. The first 2 MW phase is set to start operating in early 2027, with another 8 MW added within the year and a longer-term expansion to 15 MW. FuriosaAI will supply 1,800 RNGD accelerators in phase one.

American Bitcoin expands holdings to 8,002 bitcoins despite $57.2 million loss
American Bitcoin (ABTC) posted a second-quarter net loss of $57.2 million due to valuation losses from a bitcoin price decline, but increased its bitcoin holdings to 8,002 from 7,021 by quarter-end. The company said it mined about 932 bitcoins in the quarter, a record. Its shares rose more than 5 percent after the earnings release as the market focused on its expanding reserves.
