Loan curbs keep volume caps but widen exemptions for housing supply funds
South Korea’s financial authorities are splitting real estate finance policy into household loan volume caps and support for housing supply. They plan to keep overall household loan management by financial firms, while exempting funds needed for housing supply, youth housing stability and end-user demand. August household loans rose 2.6 trillion won, down from July, but mortgage lending increased. Authorities will also ease some PF capital ratio rules for housing projects and expand supply-related funds.

Plattsburgh considers 12-month pause on crypto mining and AI data centres to curb high-power facilities
Plattsburgh in New York state is considering reintroducing temporary restrictions on AI data centres and cryptocurrency mining facilities. The city held a public hearing on a proposal to halt land-use approvals for 12 months for high-power computing operations. If passed, facilities requiring 300 kW or more would face a pause in new approvals. Mayor Wendell Hughes has not yet approved the measure, and the city council plans another meeting on Sept. 17.

Jensen Huang congratulates OpenAI\'s Astra, says AGI has arrived, next 400,000 GPUs
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (젠슨 황) congratulated OpenAI on the launch of its new AI model Astra, saying artificial general intelligence has arrived. He posted on X that Astra was trained on Nvidia chips and wrote that the next step would be 400,000 GPUs coming online. OpenAI unveiled Astra on Sept. 4 and began providing it to some customers. OpenAI executives differed over how to use the term AGI.
