Korean game makers rewrite global playbook, moving beyond \'test in Korea then go overseas\'
South Korean game companies are changing how they pursue overseas markets. Instead of first proving a game in Korea and then launching abroad, they are now targeting global PC and console markets from the development stage and reflecting overseas user reactions in game quality and release strategy. At Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, firms including Krafton, NCSoft, Kakao Games and Com2uS Holdings showed new genres and conducted demos to gather feedback.

Kakao Games unveils \'God Save Birmingham\' co-op mode at Gamescom
Kakao Games said on Aug. 26 that its subsidiary Ocean Drive Studio will exhibit its new title \'God Save Birmingham\' at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany, and has released a new trailer. The studio will run a B2B booth and provide demonstrations for industry participants at the event. A new trailer unveiled on Aug. 21 first introduced the in-game co-op mode. Kakao Games plans co-op-focused tests before expanding beta recruitment via Steam.

Kakao Games sets rebound push with five new games, targets return to profit in Q1 2027
Kakao Games is reorganising non-core businesses under a new co-CEO structure and concentrating on launching five new titles. The company reported second-quarter revenue of 75 billion won and an operating loss of 23 billion won, with revenue down year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter. It sees sales bottoming in the second and third quarters, expects a meaningful rebound from the fourth quarter, and aims to turn profitable in the first quarter of next year.
