Shinhan Bank data leak raises concerns over internal controls

Shinhan Bank confirmed a leak of personal and credit information affecting about 25,000 customers after an abnormal method was used to bypass authentication and access some services. The leaked data include names, phone numbers, annual income and calculated loan limits, as well as 66 resident registration numbers and 97 CI linkage identifiers. South Korea\'s Financial Supervisory Service began an emergency on-site inspection. The incident is expected to raise questions about Shinhan Bank\'s information protection and internal control systems.

Big investment banks\' venture capital supply rises to 11.6 trillion won in Q2; small, mid-cap research mandate sought

Venture capital supply by seven large securities firms obligated to provide risk capital rose to 11.6 trillion won in the second quarter, up 2 trillion won, or 20.4 percent, from the first quarter, South Korea\'s Financial Services Commission said. Authorities plan to review differentiated credit for higher-risk investments and to overhaul brokerage research rules. Measures include curbing buy-rating bias, boosting small and mid-cap coverage, and extending mandatory IPO research.

NHN Dooray wins personal information protection and utilisation technology award

NHN Dooray said on Wednesday it won the chairperson’s prize from the Personal Information Protection Commission at the 2026 Personal Information Protection and Utilisation Technology Awards. The award was newly created this year to spread personal information protection technologies. Dooray was recognised for applying a three-layer protection architecture covering infrastructure, data export controls and usage controls, and for meeting cloud security and safety assessments. The company plans to expand service coverage within the military.
